Better Together’s VISTA team is a small but mighty group of AmeriCorps VISTAs serving throughout Central Oregon (Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson Counties) to develop innovative capacity building approaches that enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for children, youth and their families.
What do Better Together VISTA's do?

With an ultimate goal of everyone in our community finding a meaningful career that lifts them out of poverty, Our VISTAs build the capacity of not only nonprofit organizations, but also the community. Better Together VISTAs develop and expand educational opportunities in low income communities. On the ground, our VISTAs develop volunteer programs, create training opportunities, as well as develop and enhance education supports for the Central Oregon community.

 

 

What is AmeriCorps VISTA?
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty. President John F. Kennedy originated the idea for VISTA, which was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members serve full-time for a year at nonprofit organizations or local government agencies to build the capacity of these organizations to carry out programs that alleviate poverty.
